SAMPLE LESSON 1

Subject: English 1

Grade: 9th

This lesson was used during my student teaching experience. During a unit using the complex text Fahrenheit 451, I found my students struggling to connect and engage with the characters and their development. I used this lesson to virtually and physically engage the students with the characters of the text.

This lesson used a Google form to create a Scavenger Hunt where my students were not only constantly aligning with the learning objective in focus, but they were having fun hunting down characteristics and fun facts about the characters in the text.

This lesson allowed me to see how brilliant and engaged my students are when they are given a fun opportunity to learn. Technology engages students and allows for multiple visual, lingual, and interactive accommodations.

SAMPLE LESSON 2

Subject: English 1

Grade: 9th

This lesson was used during my student teaching experience. During a unit using the complex text Fahrenheit 451, I could see a common understanding of the central themes of the text. However, I noticed my students were struggling to connect, visualize, and summarize their complete understanding and comprehension of the text and its themes using textual references. Therefore, I used this lesson to solidify their understanding.

This lesson used a lit circle to guide, identify, connect, illustrate, illuminate, and advance self-made comprehension. The Lit circles also solidified personal learning - the students were able to take control of their own learning and pick a role that best suited their learning style, appropriation, and likeliness.

This lesson allowed me to not only witness comprehension and textual support of ideas made by students, but it allowed for me to identify individual student learning styles and preferences in the classroom.

SAMPLE LESSON 3

Subject: English 1

Grade: 9th

This lesson was used during my student teaching experience. During a unit focusing on column writing. I was able to witness student growth in analysis and understanding of the genre. However, the students were struggling to focus specifically on language, structure, and effectiveness of column writing. Therefore, this lesson was used to connect and solidify their understanding.

This lesson used a diverse set of texts to interest students and allow students to have choices in their learning (personalized learning). However, the assessments used in this lesson specifically focused on connecting student understanding and allowing students to support their analysis using textual references and application of content language. The students were able to write out their understanding, build off of it in an online discussion, and reflect upon their overall understanding in a questionnaire.

This lesson allowed me to not only witness comprehension and textual support of ideas made by students, but it allowed for me to fully and diversely assess student understanding, analysis, use of textual references, and application of language in relation to the key learning objectives and content standards.
